Rugby Seven Men’s tournament in Tokyo Olympic commenced on 26th of July with six matches in the first session, followed by another six in second session. First session ended with a match between United States and Kenya. The match saw an interesting turn of events in the second half, when the United States in spite of lagging far behind in the first half surpassed and defeated Kenya.
United States defeats Kenya in Rugby Seven Men’s tournament
United States beat Kenya with 19-14 in their first match. America’s Madison Hughes earned 7 points for his team with one tries. Apart from him, Carlin Isles and Martin Iosefo scored 5 points and 1 tries each with, Steve Tomasin bagging 2. Captain Hughe’s late match winning try saved the team to lose in their first match and gave them a good start.
Kenya’s Performance
Kenya didn’t do bad itself and almost won the match due to their good performance. Captain Collins Injera and Jeff Uluoch each scored a 5 and Eden Agero a 4 in his two successful conversions. The score which was 12-7 in the first half of the match with Kenya leading ended with 19-14 in the second half with United States winning.
The second session of the day had another match of the two teams, where USA was against Ireland and Kenya competed with South Africa. United States again won with the score of 19-17, and it is perhaps an unlucky day for Kenya as they lost to South Africa by 14-5.
