Back pain is a fact of life. Back strains or sprains are very common injuries in people’s lives. Medical results show that in addition to headaches, back problems are the most common.

What does back strain feel like?

Some common symptoms of back Strain are discussed below

  • Dull achy low back pain: Pain experienced in muscle strain is dull and achy back pain. The pain that is hot and tingling is usually because of nerve root irritation, not muscle strain.
  • Stiffness during walking, standing. Movements are limited when the back is strained. Bending the spine or standing or walking for a long duration is difficult. 
  • Pain during movement. Pain in muscle strain usually worsens during specific movements. For example, pain may increase when standing from a seated position, bending forward, or getting out of the bed. 
  • Pain radiating down the legs. Pain from muscle strain is mostly in the low back. But it can radiate to the buttocks, back of thighs, and legs as in sciatica. 
  • Local tenderness and inflammation. The area around muscle strain may feel tender to touch. The affected area may be swollen for a few days. Severe pain is usually associated with muscle spasms. 
  • Pain is relief while resting. Resting the muscle of the back may relieve the pain. Sitting in a reclined position or lying with knees slightly elevated can reduce the pain. You may feel increased pain when getting up.
