Nothing is worse than working in a messy kitchen and sitting in a cluttered space to eat your food. There are many ins and outs involved with working in the kitchen, and it can be an exciting experience. It is a space where we spend considerable time cooking, eating and socialising.
An unorganised or poorly organised kitchen takes up a lot of time and saps up your energy, which you could spend doing other things around the house. Working around the kitchen needs some preparation and work and can be made easier by following specific tips and tricks which ease your job of doing things around there. Also, the kitchen is a harmful space, so precautions while working are an urgent need, and certain things should be kept in mind while standing near a gas stove or working with sharp objects such as knives, blades, etc.
Things To Consider For Making Working In The Kitchen Easier:
- A set place for everything in your kitchen can help you function smoothly. Placing everything such as spoons, bowls, tools, pottery, appliances, spices, extra boxes, etc., in already decided drawers and cabinets with proper labelling is one way to organise your kitchen. Knowing where to find things in your kitchen will save a considerable amount of time and effort. Thinking about the frequency of use of things might help you allot the right place for each thing.
- Use Teflon-coated cookware as they are chemical resistant and have many mechanical properties. You can find them readily in the market or with any PTFE products manufacturer. They are non-stick pots and pans, using lesser oil and making the food cook faster and easier. The food doesn’t stick to the equipment and helps you save time while cleaning the utensils. It also makes the food healthier by using fewer greasing agents like oil, clarified butter, etc.
- Another helpful tip is using cob led strips around the sharp edges of the cabinets to give them a beautifying effect and prevent any harm from them. Often when you open overhead cabinets, your head gets hit by them, and you become vulnerable to many injuries. Using a led strip will help you secure the edges and prevent any kind of accidents with cabinets in the kitchen. Also, you can use different coloured lights for different cabinets as a mark of identification for what is kept inside the cabinet. This way, not only anyone who enters your kitchen will be able to find things quickly.
- Make use of ivory sheets and magnetic to-do lists for preparation. You can set up a corner of your kitchen for all the paperwork where you stick to the to-do lists every day or before every meal, as and when required. This will make your work easier as you will know what all you have prepared for and what is your ultimate goal in the kitchen.
You can include some safety sheets like p&id valve symbols chart, kitchen safety measures chart, how to use appliances books, etc., in that corner so that anybody who needs to find the way out of any emergency disaster can do so by referring to the charts and books kept there.
- Use a separate room as your pantry, or create a pantry in your kitchen while designing it. There might be many extras you bring home when you grow grocery shopping, or you might be someone who likes to hoard groceries for two months in advance to save you frequent grocery trips. Pantry is your way to go. Do not store all the extra stuff in your kitchen, as it will clutter the space too much, and you will not be able to learn how much you have already used. Organise the groceries in containers of different sizes and store extras in the pantry for ease of doing things.
- Add an eating area in your kitchen. It might happen someday that you are in a hurry to go somewhere when you want to finish your breakfast quickly. For such cases or general change of place of eating, you can design a small eating area inside or near your kitchen. Using bar stools and a marble shelf or placing a table and chair might be your way to go, but this space is very convenient when you want to cook and serve simultaneously or work online while doing other things in the kitchen.
- Keep all the appliances and tools you need at a safe distance. Make sure to keep away all the dangerous and sharp products like knives, peelers etc., so that they are in your reach but away from the reach of your children, especially if you have toddlers at home. Always make space for a clean towel and apron in your kitchen, and use sponge clothes to ensure your kitchen is dust-free. Sponge clothes are a great way to clean your kitchen; they can soak everything and never leave a mark on your kitchen shelf.
