After an intense battle between the best of the best in the Men’s Artistic Team All-around finals yesterday which saw the ROC walk home with the gold, fans of the Olympics are gearing up for what is assured to another eventful final, this time of the Women’s Artistic Team All-around event scheduled to take place today.
The final for the event is set to kick into action today, July 27, 2021, at 6;45 am ET, or 4:15 pm IST. The teams set to make their appearance and leave their mark in the final are the USA, Russian Olympics Committee (ROC), Italy, Japan, Great Britain, Belgium, China, and France. The battle to obtain the gold will be grueling, with each team ensured to put their best foot forward.

After what proved to be an intense competition between incredibly capable gymnasts, the ROC trumped in its quest of securing a Gold With 169.528 points in the event. The USA bagged the Silver with 166.096 points, and while this is incredibly commendable, it has ended its streak of back-to-back Golds in the event, having secured it in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
In a rather unfortunate turn of events, Simone Biles, who was considered to be Team USA’s greatest asset in the event, had to withdraw owing to certain medical issues. Great Britain defied the odds and came in third thereby securing a Bronze with 164.096 points in the event.
Whom Do The Odds Favour?
Heading into the event, the teams representing the USA and the ROC look to be the most viable contenders with respect to garnering the gold. Team USA has been displaying an immense deal of consistency, having bagged the gold in the event at the last two Olympics games held in 2012 and 2016 respectively, making them the favorites to bag it this year too. The team also boasts Simone Biles, one of the finest gymnasts in the world who is only beginning to come into her prime, as a member.
The ROC, on the other hand, displayed their prowess on July 25, Sunday, as they earned the top score on the balance beam, which experts are predicting to be their biggest liability as expectations for their performance on the apparatus are immensely high. They are also expected to shine in their routines on the uneven bars.
China despite having a qualifying score that stood five points behind that of Russia is expected to put up a formidable opposition. In order to have a shot at the gold, however, they would have to perform exceptionally well on the balance beam, which needs to be complemented with excellence on the vault and floor exercise.
Most experts are pitting these three teams as the top contenders for the gold, and while the other teams are highly commendable experts in what they do, their excellence would have to be complemented with a downfall of one of the aforementioned teams in order for them to be in the running for gold.
