2022 will see the Project Management Professional (PMP), credential change. The sixth edition of Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide (PMBOK Guide), will be used for the new exam. These are the things you should know if you plan to take your PMP exam in 2022.

  3. People who want to take an old exam will have a grace period. December 31, 2021 is the last day you can take the old exam.

  5. The new exam will examine five process groups: Initiating and Planning, Executing, Monitoring, Controlling, Closing, and Executing.
  6. More emphasis will be placed on tools and methods than on knowledge.
  7. The new Exam Content Outline, (ECO), is now available. You can use it to study and start the new exam.

What is the new PMP exam format?

Project Institute (PMI), will be introducing a new format to the PMP Exam starting in July 2020. This exam will include 175 multiple-choice question (70 more than the current exam) and candidates will have to complete it in four hours (rather than the three-hour limit). 60% will be the passing score on the new exam.

The 70 additional questions will be divided into two separate sections on the new exam: Knowledge and skill application, and Strategic and Business Management. The knowledge- and skills application section assesses a candidate’s ability to apply knowledge, tools, techniques, and methods to real-world situations. The strategic and management section will test the candidate’s knowledge of how project management can be used in order to achieve organizational goals.

The content of this PMP Exam will not change significantly, but candidates should take some time to learn about the new structure and question types. You have plenty of resources to assist you, including PMI’s Exam Content Outline. A little preparation will help you feel confident when you walk into the testing center on exam day.

How to prepare for the new PMP exam

Project Management Institute will soon release a new version (PMP) of its exam.   3. The exam format will be changed from multiple-choice to computer based adaptive testing (CAT). CAT adapts the difficulty of questions according to your past answers. This allows you to have a more personalized test experience.
  4. While the exact passing score for the new exam is still unknown, it is expected to be significantly higher than the 61% currently passing score.
