The American politician and commentator Sarah Louise Palin has served as the 9th governor of Alaska from 2006 to 2009. She was the first Republican female vice presidential nominee and second female vice presidential nominee after 1984. Sarah Palin: Journey To Politics
Sarah was born in 964 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Her parents worked as science teacher and track and field coach. She shares ancestry from English, German and Irish. At a very young age she exhibited qualities of team leading and hardwork. She is a graduate in communication with an emphasis in journalism.
Early Political Career
Sarah won 530 votes and was elected to the Wasilla City Council in 1992. She registered as a Republican in 1982. She was elected as the mayor of Wasilla by a win of 651 votes to 440 votes. However, he campaign was criticized with wasteful spending and high taxes.
In 2002, she ran for lieutenant governor nomination for the Republican and came second. After her failure, she campaigned throughout the state. She was appointed in the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. She wanted to learn more in the filed but eventually ended up resigning from the job.
The Elected Governor
In 2006, she defeated Frank Murkowski and became the governor of Alaska. In November she defeated Tony Knowles by a heavy margin and became Alaska’s first female governor at the age of 42. She took the office as the governor in 2006. During her tenure she worked for some important topics like resource development, education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development.
She undertook many major projects for the people of her country like the gas pipeline in 2008, predator control in 2007, public safety commissioner dismissal in 2008 including the legislative investigation, branchflower report and many other.
In 2009, she announced her resignation from the post stating that she has been spending alot giving rise to ‘opposition research’. She was later approached by a number of parties for the vice president elections.
Personal Life
Sarah married Todd Palin in 1988 and the couple have fir children together. She was a catholic since newborn. She has seven grandchildren too. In 2019, Todd filed a divorce stating the reason to be ‘incompatibility of temperament’ and requested for equal division of the assets. They finally got divorced in 2020.
