The ATA offers two different levels of certification:
- Certified Medical Translator (CMT) and Board-Certified Medical Translator (BCMT).
- The CMT credential is designed for translators with two years or more of professional experience
- While the BCMT credential is designed for translators with five years or more of professional experience.
Once you have passed the certification exam, you will be required to renew your certification every five years. In order to do this, you must complete 10 hours of continuing education credits and submit a portfolio of your work to the ATA for review.
