Novel Coronavirus has more than a single face now, termed as Alpha variant, Beta variant, Gamma variant and finally Delta variant for common use. This deadly virus of 21st century faced the answering vaccines from new technology.  Today we have over five vaccines to counter the effect of virus. However, the latest variant i.e. the delta variant, which was first reported in India, is the most dangerous one till date.

AstraZeneca and Pfizer have already claimed the position of most effective vaccines against the Alpha variant. Alpha variant is the most wide spread variant worldwide and is behind the majority of deaths. Delta variant that has been discovered the latest, is around 80% more transmissible than the Alpha variant, hence it needs to be contained at the earliest or else it could bring horrors.

Scientists and Doctors researched the delta variant and vaccines: AstraZeneca and Pfizer. And amazingly, the two vaccines managed to fight the new variant quite efficiently. AstraZeneca vaccine is reportedly 71% effective post first dose and about 92% effective post the second dose on the new variant. On the other hand, Pfizer has been tested to be 94% effective to fight the delta strain in first dose and the power increases to 96% post second dose.

Mixing of doses

A UK study has found that mixing the jabs of AstraZeneca and Pfizer has resulted in same or even more efficiency. Two jabs of same vaccine or one followed by another, all are safe. Some countries have even started mixing of jabs as their studies show the mixing boosts the immunity and is very effective.

This knowledge is useful and can come handy in case of unavailability of one vaccine. Research also shows that two doses of AstraZeneca followed by Pfizer after a gap of six months can act as an immunity booster and can prove to be very effective against the virus.
